Romany Road Recollections Of Romany Life
This website and associated Journal content is now left as a Memorial to my friend Mary Horner who sadly passed away in 2018 Mary was among the founder members of the Romany & Traveller family History Society and then went on to form Romany Road with myself (Sue Day), This is my tribute to a lovely kind lady who will always be remembered
ROMANY ROAD is a non-political, non-profit-making society, our aim being to share and enjoy memories and reminiscences of Romany Life. We are not a family history society, although details of family history will, of course, sometimes be relevant and of interest to people researching certain family names. Our ambition is purely to celebrate and record events in our ancestors' lives and we invite anyone to send us their contributions.
We try to capture glimpses of by-gone days, that allow us to present our old folki with respect and admiration for their tenacity, way of life and survival in what was sometimes a very hostile environment. We welcome any contributions of information, stories, photographs, sketches or poems. We would however, stress that views of individuals who contribute to this website are not necessarily ours.

John Scarrott
Thanks to John Scarrott in Australia and Clifford Scarrott of Essex, who both sent in a series of articles written by William Hugh and published in the South Wales Echo in the 1930s, we still have a few copies of a small booklet called:-
"John Scarrott - The man who made Boxing Champions - 1863-1947".
The stories cover a period of fifty years of "Bare knuckle" and "Glove" fighters, and contain unique insights into incidents in the careers of some of the most famous boxers in the South Wales Valleys, that make fights of today appear tame in comparison
Please make cheque/Postal Order payable to:
"ROMANY ROAD" and send c/o 22, Ecroyd Park, Credenhill, Hereford. HR4 7EL
THIS PUBLICATION IS NOW AVAILABLE - A5 size booklet - 24pp
