ARE ROMANY THE DESCENDENTS OF THE LOST TRIBES OF ISRAEL
An Article - 27th October 2007 by Robert McDougall - Historian/Author asking:-
My personal belief is that world-wide Romanies are descendents of "The Lost Tribes of Israel", in their "Freedom Road" exodus from Egypt under the Prophet Moses - but banned from returning to Israel. During their captivity in Egypt, the lost tribes were educated in Astrology and supernatural psychic arts, which today is inherant in many Romany, also as fortune-tellers. Indian immigrants don't have this ability.
Looking at Gypsies today at horse fairs, it's fashionable for many of the women to wear highly colourful and long flowing dresses that they often wear daily if true to their heritage. Such fashions were ordained amidst Jewish tribes B.C. and A.D., but significantly not worn by most Indian immigrants into Britain.
It's mistakenly believed Romany came from N.W. India. While many of them did settle there upon exodus from Egypt and absorbed Indian culture, the complexion of true Romanies is a combination of striking Jewish and Egyptian features, rather than square-faced Indians whose faces are smaller, also their stature.
Early A.D. Gypsies in Britain styled themselves as "Egyptians", also being described as such by officialdom. Indians immigrating into Britain soon forgo their long colourful dress and suits that they wore in India and adopt British clothing. Another clue that traditionally clothed Gypsies in Britain are not from India, is that British Gypsies also have biblical names. The word "Gypsy" itself is an abbreviation of Egyptian - another clue of their historical Egyptian captivity. Yet another clue is that Indians in Britain have no psychic awareness, such as Romany Fortune Tellers, and are profoundly materialistic, unlike real Romanies, interested in human nature rather than materialistic accumulation. Romanies also have an inherant ability to "size up" everyone they meet with great perception and understanding, whereas Indians are generally introvert unlike the more friendly Romany.
It is such understanding of the real human nature of Romanies, that since 1988 their encampments, also their fortune tellers, have automatically co-operated with me photographing them for posterity - a consideration not generally allowed gorgios! Hitler studied the occult and knew Gypsies were descended from "The Lost Tribes of Israel", hence his evil extermination of millions of beautiful Romany in concentration camps, carried out pre WW2 and also before the round-up of the Jewish race in Europre and most WW2 newsreels are of Gypsies being rounded-up for concentration camps , also in Poland - much more than Jews.
ROBERT McDOUGALL
Photographic portraits by Robert McDougall of Blackpool’s famous Romany Fortune Tellers are to be featured on David Dickinson’s “Real Deal” television show, initially filmed at Blackpool’s Imperial Hotel on 26th of January 2008. David and his TV crew were stunned by the highly professional quality of the twenty-six extremely rate colour portraits, specially allowed to Robert by the fortune tellers who are usually camera-shy. David reported on TV that his ‘Crystal ball forecast’ by a Blackpool Romany, was for increased world-wide fame with top TV awards unlimited!!
Greatly pleased to feature the unique photographs of Romany as highly representative of Blackpool’s tourist attractions, David’s show is scheduled for screening nationally later in the year, possibly in June or July .
BILLY FURY AND THE BLACKPOOL FORTUNE-TELLERS
By Robert McDougall
I personally knew “Billy Fury” in Liverpool in the late 1950s when he worked on tugboats and I worked on the docks, and we often discussed his then written songs, which he showed me on the quayside. Billy’s family holidayed in Blackpool and Billy often visited several Blackpool Fortune-tellers shown in other photos I have of him, and he rode around Blackpool in 1960 on a “Mods” scooter bike. I am friends also with Billy’s mother and brother Albert, who still live in Liverpool dockland.
Gypsy Roselee was Billy’s favourite psychic consultant, but she refused to tell him that he would die at forty-two years of age (as he did). Rosalee knew and foretold for all the great celebrities of the 1950s and 1960s: Diana Dors, Eli Kazen – the Method Studios Director, who produced Marlon Brando, James Dean, Tyrone Powell, Error Flynn, Bette Davis, plus many, many other great screen stars. I have many photos of them with the late great Rosalee and other Blackpool fortune-tellers who have natural Romany psychic ability, some of which will appear in later editions of Romany Road.
The picturebelow on right, courtesy of Robert McDougall, shows Blackpool’s world famous fortune-teller Sarah Petulengro. Twenty years on the North Pier, Sarah has foretold for thousands of famous celebrities. Here Brian Conley, celebrated TV comedian, is learning of greater success. Sarah, who comes from one of Blackpool’s biggest families of Romanies, is also highly musically gifted and has appeared many times on television.
Below are just two of the pictures and stories appear in Romany Road Journal 6
